Another BeOS website?

It started off as a reference for myself where I could keep track what I find out about BeOS together in one place easily. It's the result of a an awful lot of Googling and pestering people via email. It's Belated because it's years after the height of BeOS' fame, and researching it now means going back in time to pick up the trail after it's almost went cold.

So what's it for. Maybe it's for the noobs who've yet to experience BeOS, and maybe it's my $.02 towards spreading the word about this OS. If you're already an advanced user than there may be little of interest here, but if you're clueless about BeOS and trying to figure out what these people in the forums are talking about and why they're always putting a Be in front of everything, you might be in the right place. Maybe you've seen these symbols and were wondering just what the hell they mean:

Especially if you don't feel like digging through page after page on the internet or surfing through the forums trying to make sense of it all. You want it in a nutshell, right?

So where to start?

You do have to remember this is a retro thing not a bleeding edge thing. Afterall, it peaked nearly five years ago. Mostly you might care if you are interested in alternate operating systems. If you felt like experimenting with something beyond Windows, OS X and the *Nixes or if you heard somebody mention it in a forum somewhere. Hang out in the geek forums long enough, and inevitably somebody will.

Myself, I couldn't help being curious about this OS that some people kept saying was dead even while others swore up and down that it wasn't. Whether you consider it a hobby OS or something practical for your desktop, BeOS is worth a look-see.
